PM Dancila underscores in Abu Dhabi Romania’s interest in drawing Emirati investments

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila conveyed to Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is the representative in the western region of Abu Dhabi, Romania’s interest in terms of attracting Emirati investments in areas such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, healthcare and education. According to a release of the Gov’t issued on Thursday, Viorica Dancila met on Wednesday with Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The head of the Executive was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu, Business Environment Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea and Healthcare Minister Sorina Pintea. The Executive mentioned that, within the meeting, also reviewed were the outlooks of the bilateral relations between Romania and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the objectives of the common agenda at political-diplomatic level, as well as in terms of economic and sectorial cooperation were analysed. “Within the dialogue, the two officials commended the positive dynamics of the Romanian-Emirati contracts, with commercial exchanges and investments representing a priority in Romania’s relation with the UAE,” the release mentions. Furthermore, Viorica Dancila brought to mind Hamdan Bin Zayed al Nahyan’s visit to Bucharest on 17 September. The PM also pointed out “the highly important role of a sustained dialogue for boosting cooperation between the business milieus of the two states,” the Gov’t mentions. Moreover, PM Dancila “underscored Romania’s interest in terms of attracting Emirati investments in areas of interest, such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, healthcare, education.” She also brought to mind the Gov’t’s demarches regarding the amendments in the private-public partnership legislation, meant to boost private investments and develop major projects of national importance, the Executive also conveys. The meeting also occasioned an exchange of views regarding the regional and international topics of shared interest. Dancila reiterated Romania’s support in identifying a political solution of the Middle East and Africa differences, including in the context of our country taking over, as of 1 January 2019, the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, for a six-month period, the release also reveals.   Joint statement on the establishment of a strategic economic partnership between the governments of Romania and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), adopted A joint statement on the establishment of a strategic economic partnership between the governments of Romania and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was adopted as part of a working visit by Romania’s Prime Minister Viorica Dancila to the UAE, reads a press statement released by the Romanian government on Thursday. The two sides are said to have agreed on the establishment of a stronger and more active framework for governmental co-operation and coordination and also on promoting bilateral relations to strategic economic partnership. In this respect, the Romanian and Emirati heads of government adopted on Wednesday a Joint Statement on Establishing a Strategic Economic Partnership between the Government of Romania and the Government of the United Arab Emirates. “The document highlights the important regional role of the United Arab Emirates, alongside Romania’s membership of the European Union, which provides important opportunities for co-operation through the development of joint initiatives for both countries.” It also mentions the objectives of bilateral co-operation in priority sectors to Romania, namely: trade, investment, industry, agriculture, banking, energy, transport and transport infrastructure, IT and blockchain technology, as well as education, culture, research innovation, tourism, youth and sports. According to the government, the statement also highlights the important role of the Romanian community in the UAE and of Romania in the economic, social and cultural development of the two countries. The document highlights the need to adopt an action plan in the near future setting out the concrete steps the two governments will undertake to implement the strategic economic partnership. “Boosting the economic and trade dimensions of the bilateral relations with member states of the Gulf Co-operation Council is an important specific objective of the Romanian government, included in its 2017-2020 programme. In this context, relations with the United Arab Emirates are a priority, both from the point of view of human relations and in terms of economic and commercial potential.” According to the government, Romania enjoys a long tradition of co-operation with the United Arab Emirates, which is Romania’s main trading partner in the Arab Gulf area. “Between the two countries there is a real potential for co-operation in various niche areas such as information technology and communications, renewable energy, environment protection and preservation, real estate and tourism,” according to the official statement.
