Romanian Prime Minister, Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai address development of bilateral relationship

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had a meeting with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, the discussions focusing on the common interest for the development of the bilateral relationship. Premier Viorica Dancila is currently on a working visit to the United Arab Emirates. According to a press release of the Gov’t, the two officials assessed the stage of the bilateral relations and the progress registered in the strengthening of the economic and sectoral cooperation between Romania and the United Arab Emirates following the first session of the Joint Cooperation Committee between the Government of Romania and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on 16-17 April. “The emphasis was placed on the common interest for the development of the bilateral relationship as a whole, by identifying new business opportunities and common cooperation projects,” reads the release. Viorica Dancila affirmed that the United Arab Emirates hold an important potential to absorb some Romanian products and can become a significant supplier of investments in interest domains of the Romanian economy. The prime minister reviewed the main investment advantages offered by Romania and encouraged the participation of UAE companies in the tenders organised for projects financed through operational programmes currently underway but also the participation in investment projects in private-public partnership. “Romania’s Prime Minister voiced her satisfaction in relation to the positive evolution in the Romanian-UAE relations, also expressing her conviction that the two states will sign in the upcoming future the Joint Declaration regarding the establishment of an extended economic partnership between Romania’s Government and the Government of the United Arab Emirates that will contribute to ensuring a harmonious development, on pragmatic foundations, of the Romanian-UAE relations,” the release informs. According to the quoted source, the talks also occasioned an exchange of opinions on interest topics on the international and regional agenda, with an emphasis on the recent developments in the Middle East. “In context, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila underscored that Romania, as a state due to take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first semester of 2019 will continue to attach special importance to the European Union’s Southern Neighbourhood, at the same time with the promotion of the political resolution of the differences in the Middle East and North Africa. The head of the Romanian Executive also reiterated Romania’s support for the reconciliation of the states within the Cooperation Council of the Gulf, a highly important organisation for the regional security architecture,” the cited source specifies.   Attending the talks on behalf of the Romanian governmental delegation were Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu, Minister for Business, Trade and Entrepreneurship Stefan-Radu Oprea and Health Minister Sorina Pintea. On the Emirates’ side were present the Interior Minister Saif Bin Zayed al Nahyan, State Minister for International Cooperation, Director General of the Expo Dubai 2020 Rim Al-Hashemi and Chairman of the Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem.   Talks with Dubai Ports chairman focus on extended economic partnership with UAE Government   Romanian Prime Minister had a meeting on Tuesday with Chairman of the Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, with whom she discussed the creation of an extended economic partnership between the Government of Romania and the UAE Government. According to a release from the Executive, the prime minister pointed out that there is a great potential for increasing bilateral trade and Romania prioritizes long-term economic cooperation with the UAE in the context of some projects of interest, such as industrial and civil constructions, technology transfer, agriculture and food safety, the use of nuclear energy and unconventional green energy, defense and IT. “The head of the Romanian Executive also said that Romania will hold the Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2019, and the Romanian side will support an ambitious economic policy agenda, which will have as priorities the acceleration of the steps to conclude free-trade agreements with major regions, such as the Gulf area,” the release said. The quoted source states that both Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman of the Dubai Maritime Authority, expressed their wish to strengthen the relations between the business environments from the two states, focusing on sectoral cooperation in fields such as energy, agriculture, investment, critical infrastructure security, tourism and emergencies. “In this respect, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila stressed that, at internal level, a series of legislative initiatives, such as the new law of the public-private partnership, were adopted, aimed to facilitate the development of large-scale strategic projects, in the near future,” the quoted source specifies. Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem also discussed the creation of an extended economic partnership between the Romanian Government and the Government of the UAE, the Presidency of Romania at the EU Council, the cooperation between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the situation in the Gulf, the release also informed.
