April 2, 2024

Romania's Minister of Home Affairs Catalin Predoiu says that police officers with Romania's Directorate for Combatting Organised Crime will join this March an operational support mission of the British authorities.According to a press statement released on Saturday by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Predoiu recently had a meeting in the UK with representatives of the National Crime Agency (NCA)."We discussed the policies implemented in the UK to prevent and combat drug trafficking, with emphasis on the prevention component in schools and universities. During the discussions, I presented the main objectives I have pursued since taking office, namely combatting organised crime, with emphasis on the fight against illicit drugs and related crimes, namely human trafficking."The two sides also agreed on ways to enhance information exchanges."We agreed on ways to increase the exchange of information and best practices, support joint initiatives and strengthen actions to eradicate trafficking networks. Effective exchange of information can help prevent security threats from arising. Police officers with the Directorate for Combatting Organised Crime will join an operational support mission of the British authorities. This type of co-operation is an investment in the capabilities of the Romanian Police to fight against organised crime, so as to maintain a high standard in terms of the safety of our citizens."Also discussed at the meeting was professional training and going into a partnership with the Alexandru Ioan Cuza Police Academy in order to improve the response capacity of the Romanian police to the current challenges."The expertise of the specialists within the agency is recognised in the field and, moreover, the NCA can contribute to the success of the reform process we have initiated at the level of this educational establishment. On a more general level, the reform and modernisation of Alexandru Ioan Cuza Academy is an investment in increasing the professionalism and integrity of all weapons within MAI."
