In Chisinau, Senate President Nicolae Ciuca had a meeting with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu

April 2, 2024

Senate President Nicolae Ciuca emphasized on Friday, at his meeting with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, that "the hybrid war promoted by Moscow did not achieve its goals in Chisinau", and this is "a victory" and "very good news" for Bucharest too."An extremely warm and pleasant meeting with Mrs. President Maia Sandu. Romania unconditionally stays by the side of the Republic of Moldova, on its European course and in supporting its territorial integrity. The situation in Transnistria is an issue that can be solved in time through dialogue, in accordance with international law, without affecting the European future. The Republic of Moldova is an independent and sovereign country and the only one that can decide its own fate," Ciuca wrote on Facebook.According to the Senate head, "the place of the Republic of Moldova is in the European Union, and Romania remains its main partner in this endeavor.""The hybrid war promoted by Moscow did not achieve its goals in Chisinau, and this is a victory and very good news for Bucharest as well. I am convinced that, as the institutions of the Republic of Moldova will implement the necessary reforms in key areas, the European idea will become more concrete, more tangible, more desired. By society and by the entire political class," Nicolae Ciuca added.   Nicolae Ciuca highlighted on Friday, during the meeting held with the president of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu, that Bucharest will continue to support Chisinau and provide the assistance needed in the process of accession to the European Union, the chairman of the Senate."Bucharest will continue to support Chisinau, just as it has until now. This was my message to Igor Grosu, the president of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. We continue to provide all the assistance that is needed in the process of joining the European Union in terms of technical, legislative and diplomatic levels. We, the National Liberal Party, will do everything possible to expedite the interconnection projects of the two banks of the Prut, in terms of road and energy. For example, the A8 Targu Mures - Iasi - Ungheni motorway is a project of increased interest in Chisinau, because it also has the role of providing the Republic of Moldova with a high-speed link with the West of the continent," Ciuca wrote on Facebook on Friday. He emphasized that Romania already provides part of the gas consumption of the Republic of Moldova."Just two days ago, a quantity of 0.3 million cubic meters of gas was sent over the Prut through the Iasi - Ungheni gas pipeline. This was possible without problems, given that there are sufficient quantities in our national warehouses of natural gas. We will continue to support the Republic of Moldova on this plan, considering the energy blackmail that the Russian Federation uses as a weapon in the relationship with the rest of Europe," added Ciuca. The President of the Senate was on an official visit to Chisinau on Friday.
