President Klaus Iohannis reconfirmed on Wednesday his political commitment to Romania's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), on the occasion of the reception at the Cotroceni presidential palace of OECD secretary-general Mathias Cormann, the Presidential Administration informs in a press release sent on Tuesday.Klaus Iohannis welcomed the launch of the second Economic Survey of Romania and appreciated "the significant contribution that the OECD analysis makes from the perspective of our country's reform needs and objectives for sustainable economic growth".The two officials discussed the status and prospects of our country's accession to the OECD, the findings of the Economic Survey, as well as regional and international developments relevant to the current economic dynamics. In the context of the presentation of the main conclusions of the Economic Survey, the priorities and main current challenges in relation to ensuring macroeconomic stability, fiscal-budgetary consolidation and creating a favourable climate for investment and economic growth in Romania were addressed, the source said.President Klaus Iohannis reconfirmed the "broad political commitment to the accession goal", stressing that obtaining OECD membership is a strategic priority for our country. The president also thanked the secretary general for his support for our country's candidacy and for the contribution of the long-standing relationship between Romania and the OECD to national reform efforts in a wide range of areas. President Iohannis also reiterated the authorities' commitment to continue at a sustained pace the process of alignment with OECD standards and best practices.At the same time, he welcomed the Organisation's active involvement in Ukraine's support and reconstruction efforts and reiterated our country's position on the war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, both from the perspective of a neighbouring state and as a member state of the European Union. In this context, President Klaus Iohannis stressed that Romania will continue its multidimensional support to Ukraine for as long as it is needed.In his turn, Mathias Cormann congratulated Romania for the progress made so far on the road to OECD membership, pointing out that our country is among the most active candidate countries, the source said.The OECD secretary-general said that Romania's achievements so far indicate a clear trend towards accelerating the accession process, with the current progress pace leading to optimistic expectations of completion by the first half of 2026 at the latest. He also expressed "the full openness of the Organisation to support the Romanian side in continuing its efforts to align with OECD standards, with a view to the successful completion of the accession process".
