Infrastructure: Romania OKS $1.2B Constanta Port expansion

April 17, 2024

The Government of Romania has given its approval for an important infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the southern sector of Constanta Port on the Black Sea. This decision was made following a proposal by the Ministry of Transport to develop new terminals, access roads and utilities in the region.   According to Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu, the project is estimated to cost a total of around €1.12 billion ($1.22 billion).   “The project will facilitate the operation of large-capacity ships at the approximately 17 newly created berths on Pier III South and Pier IV South due to the large water depths in the area of the newly built quays,” said Grindeanu. “Achieving the investment objective will thus lead to an increase in the capacity of maritime transport of goods and, implicitly, to an increase in the volume of commercial exchanges.” Earlier this year, the Government approved a decision to allocate over $200 million for the Constanta Port dredging program.   This dredging scheme is set to to bring the basins and navigable channels in the port to the projected level, ensuring optimal conditions for maritime activities.
