Exhibition-event dedicated to Brancusi at Centre Pompidou in Paris, March 27 - July 1

April 23, 2024

An important retrospective dedicated to the work of Constantin Brancusi in France will be organized, between March 27 and July 1, by the famous museum of modern art Centre Pompidou in Paris, in institutional partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) and the Romanian Embassy to the French Republic, reads an ICR press release, sent on Friday. The exhibition will bring together nearly 200 sculptures, photographs, drawings, films, archival documents, as well as items of furniture from the artist's Parisian studio. The curatorial vision belongs to Ariane Coulondre, who also proposes an immersive experience in Brancusi's studio, created with the help of set designer Pascal Rodriguez, complemented by an information space.Alongside the works on display, the curator of the exhibition has also chosen to reveal some details about the Romanian sculptor's musical affinities, dance and music being an important part of his life.As a unique element of the exhibition, the work Leda will be presented in motion, on a rotating pedestal, in perpetual metamorphosis, as Brancusi himself presented it in his studio, says the source. The extensive exhibition project was carried out with the support of several international museums that hold works by Brancusi, such as Tate Modern, MoMA, Guggenheim Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, Dallas Museum of Art, National Museum of Art of Romania (MNAR), Craiova Museum of Art, etc.The last Brancusi retrospective in France took place in 1995, also at the Centre Pompidou, curated by Margit Rowell.
