Zelenski: #Ukraine has established several routes for its agricultural exports, including through Romania and Moldova

May 7, 2024

Ukraine has established several routes for its agricultural exports, including through Romania and the Republic of Moldova, in the context where the Ukrainian-Polish border crossings are currently blocked, said the Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski, informs IPN on Monday, quoting the site gordonua.com.Zelenski has announced that the Ukrainian premier Denis Smihai has approached with the Polish authorities the topic of unblocking the border crossing check-points between Ukraine and Poland and ‘everybody says that the border crossing will be unblocked, surely, to help Ukraine. But, for the moment, we have to deal with the situation. And we chose several ways to avoid this blockage. We are going on’ said on Saturday the president of Ukraine, admitting at the same time that ‘the route through Poland would have been better’ as ‘transit is cheaper for some goods’.‘Even so, we are where we are. I mention the fact that the maritime ways are used as such, the Danube, we have started to work through the Republic of Moldova and Romania. I think, anyway, this is a solution’ appreciated the president of Ukraine. In August, last year, in Galati there were discussions between the decision factors of Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, the European Commission and the US with regard to export and grains transit, says Radio Kishinev.‘Today, the Republic of Moldova ensures the transit of agricultural products from Ukraine to the EU, taking into consideration the interests of the Moldovian farmers and the fact that we are a grains producing and exporting country. From this point of view, investments in infrastructure are necessary to satisfy the necessities of Moldovian farmers and the transit. The interest of the Republic of Moldova is to increase the transport capacities on railway and waterway’, stated the Moldovian minister of agriculture and food industry, Vladimir Bolea, following the discussions.IPN mentions the fact that the reunion of the co-chairmen of the Moldo-Ukrainian Inter-governmental commission for commerce and economic cooperation of 29 September 2023 in Odessa, the Ukrainian ministry of reintegration announced on its site on the Telegram platform a reduction by 27% of the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through the Republic of Moldova. In exchange, Kishinev required the waving of the dumping tax for cement import from the Republic of Moldova. Recently, Aleksei Danilov, former secretary of the Security and National Defence Council in Kiev was nominated ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, Volodimir Zelenski motivated his decision among others, by the fact that ‘the Republic of Moldova is an extremely important state for Ukraine in the context of security challenges and bilateral cooperation’ says Radio Kishinev.
