Electricity consumption, up by 3% in first two months

Final electricity consumption in the first two months of 2024 was 8.616 billion kWh, 1.7% higher than in the same period in 2023, while domestic production totaled 2.971 million toe, down 23,000 toe (-0.8%), according to data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).The final consumption of electricity in the economy increased by 3%, public lighting increased by 12%, and population consumption decreased by 2.6%.Between January 1 and February 29, 2024, primary energy resources increased by 1.5%, and electricity resources remained constant, compared to the same period last year. The main primary energy resources totaled 5.201 million tons of oil equivalent (toe), an increase of 78,400 toe compared to the period January 1 - February 28, 2023.Domestic production totaled 2.971 million toe, down 23,000 toe (-0.8%) compared to the period January 1 - February 28, 2023, and import was 2.230 million toe, up 101,400 toe (+4,8%).In this period, the electricity resources were 11.721 billion kWh, an increase of 3.7 million kWh compared to the period January 1 - February 28, 2023.Production from thermal power plants was 3.700 billion kWh, down by 108.9 million kWh (-2.9%). Production from hydropower plants was 2.959 billion kWh, down by 12.4 million kWh (-0.4%), and that from nuclear power plants was 1.980 billion kWh, up by 16.5 million kWh (+0.8%).The production from wind power plants, in the period January 1 - February 29, 2024, was 1.552 billion kWh, down by 277.4 million kWh compared to the period January 1 - February 28, 2023, and the solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations in this period was 245.6 million kWh, an increase of 78.8 million kWh compared to the period January 1 - February 28, 2023.The export of electricity was 2.050 billion kWh, down by 126.2 million kWh. Own technological consumption in networks and stations was 1.055 billion kWh, down by 18.1 million kWh.
