Foreign-controlled multinational groups employing almost 30 pct of year of 2022 Romanian workforce

As many as 29.2 percent of the total number of employees in enterprises active in 2022 were working in enterprises owned by foreign-controlled multinational groups, shows data released on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).In the reporting year, 21.7 percent of the total number of employees were active in multinational enterprise groups controlled from the top 10 countries in the ranking, the INS release shows.By the share of the workforce employed, the enterprise subgroups controlled by legal entities or individuals from Germany top the ranking (18.1 percent), followed by those controlled from France (11.2 percent), and those controlled from the United States of America (9.3 percent).By the share of the workforce employed in the total of foreign-controlled multinational company groups, the subgroups of enterprises controlled from Germany dominate the sectors Manufacturing (9.3 pct), Wholesale and retail trade; Repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (3.3 pct), and Professional, scientific and technical activities (2.9 pct).In the subgroups of enterprises controlled from France, 4.5 percent of employees are in the Manufacturing industry, 2.3 percent work in Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, and 1.4 percent work in Information and communications.Enterprise subgroups controlled from the United States of America have the most employees in the Manufacturing industry (3.8 pct), and Information and communications (2.8 pct).In Romania, 96,705 enterprise groups were identified in 2022, of which 6,036 resident enterprise groups and 90,669 multinational enterprise groups (606 domestically-controlled, and 90,063 controlled from abroad).More than 6 percent of the total groups of enterprises identified nationwide were resident (6,036 groups).Of the total number of foreign-controlled multinational enterprise groups identified in Romania, 14,553 are controlled by foreign legal entities, and 75,510 are controlled by foreign individuals.In 2022, the distribution of the groups of enterprises in Romania by economic activities shows that most of them were operating in: Wholesale and retail trade; Repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles - 32 percent of the total group of enterprises; Construction - 12 percent of the total; Professional, scientific and technical activities - 10 percent of the total; Manufacturing - 10 percent of the total; Real estate transactions - 8 percent of the total.Resident enterprise groups are mainly active in Wholesale and retail trade; Repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles - 18 percent; Construction - 11 percent; Professional, scientific and technical activities - 11 percent; Manufacturing industry - 10 percent; Other service activities - 8 percent.
