Moldova's Premier: By 2030 we will be one of the most friendly countries with EU business

June 6, 2024

Our ambition is to be ready to become a EU member by 2030, to be one of the most friendly countries with EU business, said Dorin Recean, the premier of Moldova on Thursday, at a press conference.   “Now we are part of a very volatile region, because of Russia's brutal aggression in Ukraine, but I am confident that there are people who can read the figures of this volatility, through the opportunities they bring. I am sure that risks and volatility are there to be managed, not avoided. Certainly, we are witnessing the biggest crisis after WW II in Europe and at the same time there are the times we must build up. After Ukraine, Moldova was the most affected by the war, although we succeeded in reducing the shock of energy prices and bring back control over inflation. Now we are ready to build an economy which will rapidly grow by over 7%, especially before the beginning of Ukrainian reconstruction,” Recean said.   According to the official from Moldova, the legislation and institutions of the neighbring country rapidly adapt to new rules.   “Our ambitions is that by 2030, when we can become a EU member, we could be one of the most friendly countries with EU business. In the meantime, we progress on various development platforms. One of them is Moldova IT Park, where we have extended operations this year. We also continue developing the stock market and here we are counting on Bucharest and Bucharest Stock Exchange in order to have a perfect integration between the capital market in Moldova and that of Romania, so that stock from Moldova could be accessible by the Bucharest market. We are preparing the first emission of euro bonds and we are launching the private pension fund. I would like to repeat that Moldova is like California with the best wines and we also have a very vibrant IT community,” said Moldova's premier.   About Transnistria he said “there is no threat about military escalation in Moldova, although we are exposed to hybrid attacks from Russia with various disinformation campaigns we witnessed three or four weeks ago.”   “Transnistria is an opportunity. Over 70% of trade by companies on the left bank of the Dniester, which we call Transnistria, is only with EU. Moreover, we have there reserves of over 50,000 people with educated labour force, which can be used for productive investments in Moldova. We already have a high labour flow in companies in Moldova. I would like to invite you to see East European California in order to explore those opportunities, because in Moldova we have talent and initiative. Remember one thing. Moldova has the longest border with Ukraine, of 1,200 km, and this is the place where we want to build the needed infrastructure to help Ukraine recover, “ the official pointed out.
