Bozankaya delivered the first of 17 trams for Timisoara

May 20, 2024

Bozankaya, the rolling stock manufacturer, delivered 18th May, the first tram in yellow colour to the municipality of Timisoara from the batch of 17 signed at the beginning of the year.
The value of the project amounts to approximately 33 million euros, around 1.9 million euros per tram. All trams will be delivered to Timisoara by the end of October 2024.
"This year, a batch of 17 new trams will arrive in Timișoara. I am part of the record financing of 75 million euros that we won last year through PNRR and with which we are going to modernize the entire public transport fleet in Timișoara. In the next two years, the people of Timișoara will benefit from the most modern means of public transport in the country, and our goal is that more and more Timișoara residents will choose the tram, bus or tram for their daily trips in the city", said the mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz.
The 17 trams will be approximately 30 meters long, have a transport capacity of 251 passenger, a 100% lowered floor, and have air conditioning. They are also equipped with heating, Wi-Fi, GPS, LED panels, air conditioning systems, and collision warning systems, representing an investment in the future of urban mobility in the city of Timisoara.
The trams can operate autonomously, based on the battery, without being connected to the electrical network for up to 70 kilometres. This is also the most outstanding performance achieved in the history of light rail transit systems. In addition, the environmental benefits of these low-emission vehicles will help improve air quality and protect the environment.
"We are pleased to continue the collaboration with Timișoara City Hall. The battery-powered tram produced by Bozankaya is a technological innovation that will bring significant benefits to the city, providing a greener and more energy-efficient transportation option. It's an important step towards a more sustainable future for our community," said Aytunç Günay, Bozankaya's Board Chairman.
In October 2021, Bozankaya broke a world record and won the award in the category "The Most Innovative Company of Europe" from ERCI (European Railway Cluster Initiative), the most prestigious institution in the field of European railway system technologies.
