As of end-May 2024, the forex reserves of the central bank (BNR) totalled EUR 65.072 billion, up 4.1% compared to the level of EUR 62.511 billion at the end of April 2024, according to a BNR press release sent on Monday.Inflows recorded in May 4.444 billion euros, representing changes in the foreign exchange reserve requirements of the credit institutions, inflows into the accounts of the Ministry of Public Finance (including amounts resulting from the issuance of some MF eurobonds, with a total nominal value of about 3.242 billion euros), the replenishment of the European Commission account and others.There were also outflows of EUR 1.883 billion, representing changes in the minimum foreign currency reserves held by credit institutions with the BNR, interest and instalment payments on foreign currency-denominated public debt (approximately EUR 625 million) and others.Romania's gold holdings remained unchanged at 103.6 tonnes worth EUR 7.189 billion, as per the current international prices.Romania's international reserves (foreign exchange plus gold) on May 31 2024 were EUR 72.269 billion, compared with EUR 69.700 billion on 30 April 2024.Payments due in June 2024 on account of foreign currency-denominated public debt, direct or guaranteed by the Ministry of Finance, totalled around EUR 148 million.
