DefMin Tilvar at NATO Defence Ministers Meeting, bilateral meetings with counterpart from Ukraine

    The efforts of Romania and its allies to support Ukraine are solid and will continue as long as necessary, the minister of National Defense, Angel Tilvar, stated at the meeting of the Contact Group for Ukraine, on Thursday, according to the Ministry of National Defence (MApN).The discussions within the Contact Group for Ukraine aimed at coordinating the efforts of the member states and identifying solutions to current needs, taking into account the developments on the ground. Romania's contribution and the effort supported within the Capabilities Coalitions were highlighted.In this context, Angel Tilvar had a bilateral meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov.The minister of National Defense reaffirmed Romania's firm commitment to continue the support offered to Ukraine. He presented the developments related to Romania's effort to host and operationalize the F-16 pilot training center in southeastern Fetesti, intended for both Romanian and Ukrainian pilots. At the same time, the Romanian official said that our country will continue to contribute to the training of the Ukrainian military in various formats.The two officials discussed the developments in the security situation in Ukraine and the Black Sea region. In this context, the official emphasized the role of the initiative of Romania, Turkey and Bulgaria to counter the threat of sea mines in the Black Sea, MCM Black Sea, which aims to ensure freedom of navigation."The Russian Federation continues to brutally attack Ukraine, causing civilian casualties and seriously affecting the infrastructure, especially the energy one. I conveyed to Minister Umerov that the unity of the democratic states in supporting his country and the efforts made by Romania and other allies are solid and they will continue as long as necessary," declared minister Tilvar.The two ministers assessed as very good the results so far of the training programs of the Ukrainian military within the EUMAM UA missions of the European Union and INTERFLEX, led by Great Britain.
