The National Bank of Romania achieved a profit of 2.4 billion RON last year, an increase of 124% compared to that recorded in 2022, according to the 2023 Annual Report published on Thursday by the National Bank of Romania."The financial result achieved on December 31, 2023 registered a significantly favorable evolution compared to the previous year, recording a profit in the amount of 2.428 billion RON, 124% (+1.346 billion RON) higher than the one recorded in 2022 (1.082 billion RON), mainly due to the following developments: obtaining an operating profit in the amount of 4.848 billion RON, 3% (-155.714 million RON) below the operating profit of the previous year (5.004 billion RON); of expenses with unfavorable differences from the revaluation of securities denominated in foreign currency in the amount of 260.464 million RON, 13 times (-3.072 billion RON) lower than the level of similar expenses recorded on December 31, 2022 (3.333 billion RON); the recording of expenses with the unfavorable differences from the revaluation of net assets in foreign currency in the amount of 2,159,304, 4 times higher (+1,570 billion RON) than the level of similar expenses recorded on December 31, 2022 (588,643 million RON)," the document says.According to Law no. 312/2004 regarding the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, the main destination was a share of 80% of the bank's net revenues owed to the state budget, in the amount of 1.942 billion RON.Also, the amount of 291.438 million RON was allocated to increase the bank's statutory reserves (representing 60% of the remaining profit after deducting the 80% share of the net revenues destined for the state budget). The remaining profit in the amount of 194.293 million RON will be distributed in 2024 according to the legal provisions.
