Nokian Tyres produces first tire at €650M Oradea factory

August 1, 2024

The first tire was produced in the Nokian Tyres factory in Oradea. Commercial-scale production will begin in 2025 as planned, the company said in a press release.   Nokian Tyres produced the first tire in its new factory that it is building in Oradea, today, July 1. The first tire produced in Oradea is Nokian Tires Snowproof 2, a symbol of the 90th anniversary of the invention of winter tires. Commercial-scale production will begin in the first part of 2025. Construction of the factory began in May 2023.   The company has been running a recruitment campaign for the formation of the local team since last year. In 2023 and 2024, candidates were selected for both the production area and administrative and management roles. The launch team of 60 specialists is coordinating the phased increase in production capacity and benefited from a training internship at the Nokian Tyres factory in Finland during the spring. In total, the factory will have approximately 500 employees.   “With the first tire made here, we had the opportunity to test the production capacity in the new factory and everything is going according to plan. In turn, the team members have successfully completed the internship in Finland and now have all the necessary information to be able to produce premium tires just like in our other factories: without compromise. Thanks to the involvement of each of them, today we can celebrate the production of the first tire in the Nokian Tyres factory in Oradea”, says Susanna Tusa, General Manager and Vice President of Nokian Tyres Romania Operations.   Once operational, the Nokian Tyres factory will have an annual production capacity of six million tires, with potential for future growth, and the total built-up area is approximately 100,000 square meters. The value of the investment amounts to 650 million Euros. The tires produced in Oradea will be sold mainly in Central Europe, thanks to the strategic location, close to customers in this region.
