Comics exhibition dedicated to centennial of French Institute in Romania, Romania's first Olympic medal

August 6, 2024

In celebration of the centennial of the French Institute in Romania, the best works of the fifth Comics Olympiad are displayed until July 30 outdoors, on the fence of the Institute in Bucharest."This year's edition of the Comics Olympiad brings into the limelight centenary stories: 100 years since the 1924 Paris Olympic Games, 100 years since the first medal won by Romania at the Olympic Games. These children have brought out the best of (...) everything the Olympic Games mean, everything that means passion, players, great medal-winning athletes in general," said president of the Romanian Rugby Federation Alin Petrache. The theme of the 5th edition of the Comics Olympiad was "Romania's Olympic Games 100 - 100 years since the first Olympic medal win (Paris 1924)," an invitation to explore, innovate and transpose into comics what the Olympic spirit means, taking inspiration from Romania's rich Olympic history and its relationship with France and Paris, an infinite source of subjects and influences, the combination of sport, Olympic spirit and culture."(...) This year's theme was a bit more difficult, because the students had to find a connection between Romanian and French culture, the Olympic Games, we saw Enescu and Brancusi featured in their drawings, but of course, the entire pleiad of sports greats. These young artists were so attentive to detail, and what I find particularly important is the documentation part, how they sat and created their own story," declared Ana Maria Branza, adviser to the president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee.Between August 1 and 25 the exhibition will be moved to the fence of the Filipescu Cesianu Manor - the Bucharest Museum of the Ages. An indoor exhibition with a selection of the best works in French will be organized between July 10 and 26 at the headquarters of the French Alliance in Suceava, and will next travel to Marseille until late August. The Comics Olympiad is initiated by M. I. Grajdeanu, under the auspices of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee and the Romanian Olympic Academy, and takes place under the patronage of Romania's National Committee for UNESCO.
