NATO75/Iohannis: Our desire is to receive another Patriot system in exchange for one donated to Ukraine

August 8, 2024

Our desire is to receive another Patriot system in exchange for the one donated to Ukraine, but I think we will also get systems that will be delivered faster as compensation, the president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, said on Wednesday, in Washington, while participating in the NATO anniversary summit from July 9-11."We support Ukraine, we support the Republic of Moldova, we donate Patriot - because we can and because we think it is right. Romania has transformed from a state that begged to receive help of any kind to a state that has the strength, energy and capabilities to export security throughout the region. Romania has become safer, stronger and more involved, especially in the last 10 years. Our claim is that when we donate high-capacity systems, like Patriot, we will be reasonably rewarded," Iohannis told a press briefing for Romanian journalists."In CSAT, we discussed this issue in detail a few days ago and gave a mandate to the minister of Defense and negotiations are underway, and our desire is to receive another Patriot system in exchange, certainly not tomorrow, but in the relatively near future. But I believe that we will also get systems that will be delivered faster to compensate for the donation of this Patriot system," explained the Romanian president.
