Romanian-Turkish protocol in field of labor and social security

August 15, 2024

The Minister of Labor and Social Solidarity, Simona Bucura - Oprescu, and her counterpart, Vedat Isikhan, signed on Thursday, at the Victoria Palace, a protocol between the two ministries which aims to better protect the rights of workers from the two countries. The event took place in the context of the first joint working meeting between Romania and Turkey in the field of labor and social security."Today is an important moment, because thanks to the action plan, both the workers from Turkey and those who work in Romania, and we are talking about over 10,000 workers, from the records we have at the Labor Inspection, are to have a better protection of their rights," declared Bucura - Oprescu, on this occasion.According to the minister of Labor, it is an important moment for the bilateral relationship, after Romania and Turkey signed an agreement in the field of labor and social solidarity that entered into force last year."It is an important moment for the bilateral relationship, after Romania and Turkey signed an agreement in the field of labor and social solidarity, in the field of labor and social affairs, in 2019, which entered into force in 2023. We had an update on May 21, in Ankara. Following the meeting with the Minister of Labor and Social Security from Turkey, we agreed that, in addition to this agreement, it is very important for Romanian and Turkish citizens, for those who, due to the right of free movement, want to work in Romania or in Turkey, for the development of our relations and good practices, it is time to give a concrete dimension to this agreement. This is the reason why the agreement, the administrative arrangement, acquires a concrete dimension today in Bucharest by signing the protocol and the action plan for the period 2024 - 2025 in the field of labor and social affairs. In Bucharest, today, we are making history for the bilateral relations between Romania and Turkey, because we want to have a stronger labor market," added Bucura - Oprescu. For his part, the Turkish Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Isikhan, expressed his confidence that the action plan for the period 2024 - 2025 will contribute to the deepening of cooperation, emphasizing that, together with his Romanian counterpart, he will monitor "closely" its implementation."We had the first meeting of the Turkey-Romania joint working group in the field of labor and social security, we just signed the protocol regarding the first meeting of the Turkish-Romanian permanent joint commission in the field of labor and social security, which was developed as a result of the dedicated activity of our technical delegations. I am confident that the action plan for the period 2024 - 2025 (...) will contribute to the deepening of cooperation. As ministers, we will closely monitor its implementation," emphasized Vedat Isikhan.
