Unit 1 of CNE Cernavoda automatically disconnected from the National Energy System on Friday evening

Unit  1 of CNE Cernavoda automatically disconnected from the National Energy System on Friday evening, due to disfunctionalities in the classic part of the unit, without any impact on the nuclear security, informs the National Nuclearelectrica Society (SNN).Unit 1 of CNE Cernavoda with installed power of 700 MW was commissioned in 1996 and delivered, until now, 133 million MWh, representing 9% of the national consumption, on a period of 26 years. Unit 1 prevented the release in the atmosphere of 130million tons of CO2.Nuclearelectrica is the national company for electric, thermal and nuclear fuel energy in Romania, which functions under the authority of the Ministry of Energy, the Romanian state owning 82.49% of the shares, and the other shareholders 17.50% after listing on the stock exchange of the company in 2013. The company contributes to over 18% of the nuclear energy to the total production of energy and with 33% to the total production of energy without CO2 in Romania.The CNE Cernavoda operates two CANDU nuclear units, being two of the most performing units  out of  the over 400 nuclear units in the world, a factory of nuclear fuel making the integrated cycle of fuel through the acquisition of a processing line for uranium concentrate to support the company long run investment projects.
