60% of Romanians prefer driving personal cars in 2024 summer holidays

People from Bucharest-Ilfov choose to go by train to the detriment of other transport means, according to the study MKOR Tourism Market - 2024 Summer holiday.   The MKOR study points out the Romanians' customs and preferences for the 2024 summer holidays, startingwith the way in which they are planning sojourns, the transport options used, to the types of accommodations chosen and favourite activities.   Transport and accommodation options   For this summer's travels, 60% of Romanians will use their personal cars, while 28% will travel by plane. People from Bucharest-Ilfov prefer going by train to using other transport means.   Over half of respondents (55%) will stay in hotels, followed by pensions (24%). Those who choose hotels or pensions prefer 3 or 4 star comfort (37% and 31%). Millennials, men and people who travel abroad or visit new destinations prefer 5 star accommodation.   Offers and payment means   Early booking offers are popular among Romanians (22%), mainly among married people with minor children. Group offers or last minute ones interest certain segments of tourists. However, a higher percentage (60%) did not benefit from any discounts in booking their holidays for the chosen destination.   Regardless of discounts, most respondents (44%) choose to pay online fr vacations, especially men, people with high incomes and higher education. X generation, married people with minor children, prefer to pay at travel agency headquarters or at accommodation units (21%). A similar percentage (20%) did not make down payments for holidays.   Romanians who choose travel agencies   For 4 out of 10 Romanians recommendations, reviews available on specialised websites and search engines are the main information sources in choosing holiday locations.   Only 2 out of 10 respondents choose travel agencies to get informed. People from X generation, women, people with high incomes and parents tend to use services offered by travel agencies.   Only 16% of Romanians are using travel agencies to leave for their vacations, 25% fewer than in 2017, when this study was made for the first time.   Most people who did not use services of a travel agency prefer to organize their holidays themselves.   Favourite holiday activities   The most popular holiday activities are relaxation (79%), visiting tourist sites (59%) and hiking (37%). Men are attracted by activities offerinf adrenaline such as water sports and diving, while parents prefer amusement parks for the whole family.   “The MKOR study points out how Romanians are spending their holidays in the summer of 2024. Over the years, customs have changed, but now Romanians are planning their sojourns more attentively and are searching for information online, are reading reviews and recommendations on specialised websites. I can confirm this tendency, since I organize my family vacations the same way. I am glad to see that relaxation is a priority, followed by visiting tourist attractions and hiking. These activities are essential for our mental and emotional welfare,”said Cori Cimpoca, MKOR founder.
