Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival, from 24 to 29 September

September 24, 2024

The 15th edition of the International Experimental Film Festival Bucuresti – BIEFF is taking place between 24 and 29 September, at Elvire Popescu cinema hall, Cinema Union and Cinemateca Eforie, Bucharest, informs a press release sent on Thursday. The theme of this year edition is ‘Serious Games’.Among the films expected during the festival there are two Romanian films which had their world premier this month at the International Film Festival in Locarno – ‘ Eight Picture cards from the Ideal World’ directed by Radu Jude and Christian Ferencz Flatz and ‘Sleep 2” directed by Radu Jude as well as the most recent feature film of director Ana Lungu “ Triton’ presented in world premiere in June, during the International Competition of the FID Festival Marseille. One of the events is a five-part focus programme on the intersection between cinema and video games. It aims to familiarise viewers with the "machinima" genre, a media phenomenon born within gaming communities that has grown rapidly over the past decade, becoming increasingly used by visual artists and experimental filmmakers alike.   Bringing together short and medium-length films as well as a previously unseen feature film, the programme offers an overview of this phenomenon and brings to the attention of the Bucharest audience works by renowned artists such as Phil Solomon, Harun Farocki and Lawrence Lek.
