Bergenbier S.A. announces the financial results for the year 2023

September 1, 2024

Bergenbier S.A., part of the Molson Coors Beverage Company group, one of the most important beer producers in Romania, ended 2023 with a turnover of 907 million lei, an increase of almost 14% compared to the previous year.

"For us, 2023 represents yet another validation that the company's strategy, revised and amplified starting from 2020, works in a sustainable way. We have experienced three consecutive years of solid turnover growth averaging over 10% year over year. We are confident that we have taken a significant step in consolidating our position in the Romanian beer market. Despite the external factors, we continued to invest in multiple lines of business, this model helping us to strengthen commercial relations with partners and meet the diverse needs of consumers. Among the achievements of 2023 we find the solid partnership between Bergenbier and the Romanian National Football Team, the diversification of the brands’ portfolio, and the progress in reducing carbon emissions from the technological processes of the Ploiesti brewery. We could not achieve all these things without our people, colleagues and partners, and without the friendship between us, as the slogan of our central brand Bergenbier says: Friends know why", pointed out Mihai Voicu, General Manager of Bergenbier S.A.

In 2023, the brewer maintained the balance between the difficult macroeconomic environment, consumer and customer needs, without compromising on quality. In addition, the company continued the path of sustainability, investing in concrete strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of the beers produced in the Ploiești brewery.

"As expected, 2023 also saw troubled waters, with multiple external challenges, such as high inflation with a direct impact on consumer purchasing power, as well as further increases in excise duty. This environment pushed us to constantly reinvent ourselves, to effectively manage production and administrative costs, to find quick solutions and thus we met our financial goals, starting with exceeding the 900 million lei threshold for turnover. We also paid 247 million RON to the Romanian state in taxes related to the year 2023, an increase of approximately 12% compared to the previous year. We don't know how 2024 will end and what new trials we will have to go through, but surely the ability to transform, resilience and team spirit will guide us towards reaching our financial targets this year as well", added Alexandru Nomicos, Financial Director of the company.

According to data published by the Romanian Brewers Association, the beer market decreased by 5% in 2023, compared to the previous year, reaching a volume of 15 million hectoliters.

"For Bergenbier S.A., the plans in 2024 are ambitious, aligned with our objective to increase our footprint in the key segments: core and premium. We already had one of the biggest launches through the Caraiman brand, a brand that brings consumers something new through a balanced taste. Moreover, we offer our colleagues optimal conditions, constant support in personal and professional development, but also a real joy of being part of the Bergenbier S.A. family through everything the company produces for its partners and consumers", added Mihai Voicu.
