Tourism : Number of arrivals and overnight stays in accommodation units in Romania, up seven months into 2024

The number of arrivals registered in tourist reception structures (including apartments and rooms for rent) in Romania totaled, in the first seven months of this year, 7.666 million people, an increase of 3.8% compared to the same period in 2023, while overnight stays increased by 3.4%, up to 15.975 million, according to the data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).So, between January 1 and July 31, 2024, of the total number of arrivals, those of Romanian tourists represented 82.9%, while foreign tourists had a share of 17.1%.At the same time, from the total number of overnight stays in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions, Romanian tourists accounted for 82.8%, and foreign tourists for 17.2%.Depending on the countries of origin, the most arrivals of foreign tourists staying in accommodation structures were, between January and July 2024, from: Germany (128,900 people), Italy (117,800) and Israel (83,100).Strictly reported to July 2023, in July 2024, the number of arrivals in accommodation structures in Romania was 880,400 people (+6.2%), of which Romanian tourists represented 86.2%, and foreigners 13.8 %.As for overnight stays, during July this year compared to the same period in 2023, their number rose to 4.659 million (+6.7%). In context, the overnight stays of Romanian tourists in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions represented 88.7%, while the overnight stays of foreign tourists registered a percentage of 11.3%.According to the INS, the arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, registered at the border points, in July, totaled 1.556 million people, and road transport represented the first option for 85.6% of the total.
