The average monthly pension increased  by 0.4% in Q2; the average number of pensioners reached 4,971 milion

The average monthly pension in Romania was 2,427 lei in Q2 2024, up 0.4% compared to the previous quarter, while the average number of pensioners remained 4,971 million, according to published data on Friday by the National Institute for Statistics (INS).   According to official statistis, between April and June 2024, the average state social insurance pension reached 2,292 lei, and the ratio between the average net nominal state social insurance pension for old age with full contribution period (without tax and contributions of social health insurance) and the average net salary was 50.4% compared to 52.4%in the first three months of the year. Compared to the Q2 of the previous year, the average number of pensioners decreased by 7,000 people and that of the category belonging to state social insurance increased by 1,000 people. At the same time, the average monthly pension and the average state social insurance pesion increased, from one year to the next, by 15.1% and 14.3% respectively.   INS data reveals that, compared to the period January - March 2024, in the next three months the average number of pensioners decreased by 6,000, down to 4,971 million and the average number of state social insurance pensioners decreased by 3,000. The average monthly pension reached during the analysed period, 2,427 lei, 0.4% higher than the previous quarter.   At the level of Q2 2024, social security pensioners held the majority share (99.98%)in the total number of pensioners, while state social security pensioners while state social security pensioners represented 92.5% of the total number of social security pensioners.   By pension category, among social insurance pensioners, the number of those who retired due to age limit was predominant (80.2%)followed by pensioners with survivor's pensions (9.7%) and pensioners with disability pensions (8%).   At the same time, in the category of social insurance pensioners,  the lowest shares were those with partial early pensions (2%) and pensioners with early pensions (0.1%).   The ratio between the average number of state social insurance pensioners and that of employees was 8 to 10, with significant variations in the territorial profile, from only four pensioners to ten employees in Bucharest and Ilfov county, to 14 pensioners to 10 employees in Vaslui county, respectively 15 pensioners to 10 employees in Teleorman county.   The average state social insurance pension varied with significant discrepancies in the territorial profile, the difference between the minimum and maximum amount being 1,243 lei (1,811 lei in Botosani county, 1,826 lei in Vrancea county, 1,829 lei in Giurgiu county compared to 3.054 lei in Hunedoara county, 2,910 lei in Bucharest and 2,744 lei  in Gorj county).   According to the quoted source, the total number of beneficiaries of the provisions of GEOno6/2009 regarding the establishment of the minimum guaranteed social pension (currently social allowance) in Q2 2024, was 1,140 milion people, out of whom: 1,039 million from state social insurance system (22.6% of the total number of pensioners in this category), 96,600 - pensioners from former system of farmers (65.2% of the total) and 3,700 - the military system ( 1.7% of the total).
