Climate Change Summit 2024 to bring world environmental experts to Bucharest, October 15-17

November 7, 2024

The green transition, renewable energies, public policies and ESG will be among the most important subjects to be discussed during the 2024 edition of the Climate Change Summit to be held on October 15-17 in Bucharest.Related events are scheduled during the summit in over 30 locations in the capital city and in the area.According to organisers, climate crisis continues to worsen globally, and world leaders, experts and non-governmental organisations are looking for urgent and sustainable solutions to meet climate challenges. In recent years, extreme weather events such as wildfires, floods and droughts have become increasingly common, and the effects of global warming threaten to destabilise economies, put pressure on natural resources and affect millions of people around the world. However, the climate crisis is not only a threat, but also an opportunity to innovate and transform the way we live, work and consume the planet's resources. In this context, the Climate Change Summit 2024, to be held between October 15-17 in Bucharest, is an important platform for multidisciplinary debates and solutions, focusing on innovative solutions and practical strategies to combat climate change. The CCS debates in Bucharest bring together leaders from various areas, from biodiversity and circular economy, to public policies and natural resource management, and all this will create a space for collaboration and action at regional and global level. Thus, dozens of international experts and opinion leaders from various fields will debate essential topics such as: financing the green transition, the crucial role of technological innovations in sustainable cities, the importance of intersectoral collaboration between governments, the private sector and civil society, as well as the public policies necessary to combat climate change at global level.Among the most anticipated speakers are: Chris Desai, entrepreneur and philanthropist, talking about what Earth will look like in a few decades; Hakan Tropp, COO Stockholm International Water Institute, expert in natural resources and water policies talking about water at the centre of change as the essential resource for life; Chiara Cadeddu, specialist physician and associate professor in Public Health at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands talking about planetary health and climate action.Other issues to be discussed at the summit are the village of Hoghilag, important aspects of a rural resilience model, along with the state of the climate in Romania in 2024, to be tackled by a panel of specialists talking about how these phenomena affect Romania and what solutions can be designed to better face these challenges. The Climate Change Summit 2024 will also host the first edition of the Climate Change Summit Awards, for which more than 160 young people under 30 years of age, small and medium-sized enterprises and non-governmental organisations from Romania and Central and Eastern Europe have applied in six categories: Energy, Mobility and Construction; Circular Economy; Food and Agriculture; Biodiversity; Environmental Education, and the CEE Award. The young winners will receive a grant for the development of environmental projects as well as an opportunity to crowdfund, while the solutions of SMEs will be included in a report that will highlight innovations in the approach to sustainability in the region. The Climate Change Summit 2024 is an event organised by Social Innovation Solutions, together with BRD Groupe Societe Generale, as a founding partner.
