Romania applying for extension of Temporary Crisis & Transition Framework in agriculture until June 30, 2025

November 20, 2024

At the ongoing Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting, Romania applied with the European Commission for the extension of the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework in the sector of agriculture until June 30, 2025, as well for the increase of the individual aid amount to EUR 560,000 per agricultural enterprise, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said in a release on Monday. The ministry's Secretary of State Sorin Moise participates in the meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council taking place in Luxembourg between October 21 - 22.An important point on the Council's agenda is represented by the conclusions regarding a post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) oriented towards farmers, and in this sense the Agriculture ministers will seek to approve a set of conclusions regarding the future post-2027 CAP.Also, based on the information provided by the EU Presidency, the Council will discuss the main challenges facing the EU food chain."Romania reiterates the need to extend the application of the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework in the agricultural sector, as well as to increase the individual aid amount per agricultural enterprise. Thus, Romania and its partners request the European Commission to urgently analyze the realities faced by farmers and put up the individual ceiling applicable to the primary agricultural sector to EUR 560,000 per beneficiary. In order to prevent the farmers' bankruptcy and support the sector's recovery, Romania suggests the extension of the timeframe of this aid until at least June 30, 2025," the release states. The Hungarian EU Presidency will publicly provide the Council with information on: the outcome of the conference on the prevention of food waste (Budapest, October 1, 2024), the outcome of the meeting of the CAP directors (Budapest, September 10 - 12, 2024), and the outcome of the conference of the directors of EU payment agencies (Budapest, October 16 - 18, 2024).
