Hisky concludes another growth quarter, with a 28% increase in passengers, compared to 2023

November 21, 2024

HiSky is expected to close 2024 with 1.9 million passengers, according to estimates at the end of the third quarter. In the first nine months of the year, the company registered over 1.5 million passengers, marking a 28% increase compared to the same period last year. These results reflect the upward trajectory in both flight numbers and load factor that the company has been experiencing since the lifting of travel restrictions imposed during the pandemic.   Romania remains the main market driving traffic volumes, with 64% of passengers traveling from airports within the country, compared to 36% from Moldova’s airport. As in the previous quarter, the most popular routes were domestic, connecting Bucharest with western cities like Cluj Napoca and Timisoara.   "The results of this season are the best yet. This is what we hope to say after every quarterly report for a long time to come. We are still in a growth phase, and we are pleased that the numbers support and confirm this direction. After three years in the market, we are undoubtedly among the most dynamic airlines in the region, but more importantly, we’ve earned a top spot in passengers' trust. It's the same trust we offer when choosing to open routes where not many airlines are willing to invest. This is the case with domestic destinations like Cluj Napoca and Timisoara, which have become some of the most sought-after routes today. We are also confident that Oradea, our third domestic route launching this October from Bucharest, will follow the same path," said Iulian Scorpan, CEO of HiSky.   This summer's highlight in Romanian aviation, the launch of direct flights between Bucharest and New York after a 21-year hiatus, has proven to be a winning choice for the airline. In less than four months since the route's inauguration, 18,000 passengers chose to fly nonstop from Romania to the United States.   Supporting its growth strategy and market share expansion, HiSky opened three new regular routes this fall. As of October, passengers can travel from Oradea to Bucharest and London, and from Bucharest Otopeni Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle, France’s main airport. HiSky now operates 34 direct routes from airports in Bucharest, Cluj Napoca, Timisoara, Satu Mare, Iasi, Oradea, and Chisinau, with a fleet of ten Airbus aircraft.
