Telecom. IT: Internet connections increase 2.4% in 2023

The number of Internet connections increased 2.4% in 2023 compared to the previous year, the number of mobile phone connections advanced 0.4%, while the number of fixed telephone connections decreased 9.1%, according to data centralised by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).According to the (INS), last year, voice traffic (telephone calls) in the fixed telephone network fell both in total, 14.3%, and in each traffic component. The most significant decrease was in the fixed-to-fixed traffic component, with 28.4%. International traffic and fixed-to-mobile traffic dropped 8.3% and 7.8% respectively, while national own-network traffic declined 19.2%.Telephone calls in the mobile network went down 6% in 2023 compared to 2022. All traffic components recorded decreases, the most significant being the international traffic category, with 17.6%.Bucharest-Ilfov was the region with the highest share in the total number of fixed telephony connections (25.6% of the total), followed by the Centre (13%) and North-West - 12.6%.On December 31, there were 15,8000 leased lines (including international leased lines), 300 more than in 2022.
