Rompetrol Quality Control, 20 years of excellence in the field of technical analysis

December 5, 2024

Rompetrol Quality Control (RQC), the laboratory division of the KMG International Group, celebrates 20 years since its establishment. Since 2004, the company has carried out over 12.5 million technical analyses, directly supporting the Petromidia Navodari and Vega Ploiesti refineries, as well as the only petrochemical division in Romania.   The company, which employs 215 employees, 80% of whom are women, is a landmark in the market of providers of complete testing services on environmental factors (water, air, soil), petroleum products (liquid, soil, and gas), biofuels, petrochemical products, ecological solvents, bitumen, waste, professional noxes, mask and breathing apparatus checks.   “In the laboratories of the Petromidia and Vega refineries, we have a young group of experts who are always bettering themselves and educating the next generation of laboratory testing specialists for the hundreds of test types we are proud to offer. We have grown steadily over the past 20 years and are now among the top companies performing specialized technical testing and analysis”, said Laura Munteanu, Commercial Manager Rompetrol Quality Control.   Rompetrol Quality Control is the only company in Romania that can carry out complete tests on gasoline and diesel, under RENAR (Romanian Accreditation Association) accreditation. It is certified by the Romanian Automobile Register, for tests on biodiesel. Moreover, the tests carried out by RQC are recognized worldwide, as RENAR is a signatory of the ILAC-MRA (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation - Mutual Recognition Agreement).   The company owns the only laboratory in the country specialized in specific polymer testing and is authorized as a “Laboratory for Construction Material Analysis and Testing” in the MD – Road materials and MP – Protective materials against corrosive agents profiles.   Niche products, such as hexane, solvent for polymerization, and food grade for the extraction of vegetable oils, are also tested in a specialized laboratory located on the Vega Ploiesti platform.   For interventions in case of accidental pollution, Rompetrol Quality Control is equipped with a mobile laboratory that measures specific indicators for pollutant emissions into the atmosphere, the system used is compliant with European Union requirements.   Over the years, RQC has participated in several environmental projects, contributing to the free monitoring of air, water, and soil quality in major cities and monitoring parameters in the coastal area.   Rompetrol Quality Control was founded following the outsourcing of the petroleum products and environmental laboratories from the Petromidia refinery, the takeover of the Vega refinery laboratories (2006), and, later, of the Petrochemicals laboratory (in 2013).   Just one year after its establishment, RQC laboratories have received recognition from the Ministry of Economy and Trade, within the “National Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Quality Monitoring Program”.   Initially set up as a laboratory division for the Group's refineries, RQC provided services to the other member companies of KMG International (Rompetrol) and soon expanded its activities nationwide. It has thus become a major player in petroleum product, environmental, and petrochemical product analysis, with contracts and collaborations with more than 350 private companies and state authorities.   Rompetrol Quality Control was the first company in Romania to complete the implementation of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in 2008 as part of its strategy to automate and optimize laboratory processes and operations and continues to improve its functionality.   KMG International (Rompetrol), the Group of which Rompetrol Quality Control is part, has major operations in refining and petrochemicals, retail, trading, and industrial services in 11 main markets.   In Romania, the Group operates the Petromidia Navodari refinery, the largest and one of the most modern in the Black Sea region, Vega Ploiesti, the longest operating refinery in the country (1905), the only producer of bitumen and hexane in Romania and the Petrochemicals Division, the only domestic producer of polymers.
