Cars: New registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport increase 4.7% in Q3

New registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport increased 4.7% in the third quarter compared to the same period in 2023, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Monday.According to the statistics, during the analysed period, new registrations of vehicles for freight transport rose 6% compared to the third quarter of the previous year.At the same time, the share of new registrations of imported second-hand cars in the total new car registrations increased 5.3 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2023, reaching 73.2%.INS data shows that, in the third quarter of 2024, compared to the third quarter of 2023, new registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport recorded increases in the category of mopeds and motorcycles by 33.3% and in the category of cars by 3.5%, while registrations in the category of buses and minibuses decreased 22.7%.Regarding new registrations of new road vehicles for passenger transport, there was an increase in the category of mopeds and motorcycles by 46%, and decreases in the category of buses and minibuses by 22.5% and in the category of cars by 13.7%.Concerning new registrations of road vehicles for freight transport, increases were recorded in the category of trucks (including road vehicles for special purposes) by 8.8% and in the category of trailers and semi-trailers by 5.1%, while a decrease was noted in the category of tractors by 1.5%.New registrations of new road vehicles for freight transport recorded an increase in the category of trailers and semi-trailers by 7.1% and decreases in the category of tractors by 22.2% and in the category of trucks (including vehicles for special purposes) by 2.7%.Compared to the second quarter of 2024, in the third quarter of 2024, new registrations of road vehicles decreased by 7% for passenger transport vehicles and by 8.6% for freight transport vehicles.Road vehicles classified according to European pollution standards, registered for circulation, included, at the end of the third quarter of 2024, 63.4% vehicles meeting Euro 4, Euro 5, or Euro 6 standards, while 10.3% vehicles classified as Non-Euro.For the category of cars, the largest share was held by vehicles compliant with the Euro 4 standard, at 33.6%; for the category of buses and minibuses, the majority of vehicles, 23%, were classified under Euro 3, while for mopeds and motorcycles, the most vehicles, 24.4%, were classified as Non-Euro.Vehicles compliant with the Euro 3 standard predominated in the category of trucks at 27.6%, while those compliant with the Euro 6 standard were predominant in the category of tractors at 43.1%. In the category of road vehicles for special purposes, the majority of vehicles, 22.9%, were classified as Non-Euro.
