Government publishes document of Ukrainian authorities in Simion case

December 16, 2024

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu released on Friday evening the document received from the Ukrainian authorities regarding the reasons why leader of the opposition Alliance for the Union of Romania (AUR) George Simion is subject to an entry ban to Ukraine."Considering the interest of the Romanian public opinion into the correspondence carried between the Government of Romania and the Ukrainian authorities regarding the reasons why Mr. George Simion is not allowed to enter the territory of Ukraine, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu requested and received, through the competent institutions of the Romanian state, the Ukrainian authorities' assent to publicly release the answer received and to make public information about this subject," the government said in a statement. In the response of the Ukrainian authorities to the Romanian Government, it is shown that the Kyiv Security Service decided to enforce "a restrictive administrative measure" in the form of a travel ban to this country against Romanian deputy Simion George as a result of his statements aimed at "discrediting Ukraine on the international arena and the promotion of unionist ideology"."The decision was made on the basis of available information regarding the systematic anti-Ukrainian activities of this politician, which are contrary to the national interests of Ukraine and violate the sovereignty of the state and its territorial integrity. George Simion's statements are aimed at discrediting Ukraine on the international arena and promoting unionist ideology that denies the legitimacy of Ukraine's state border. Moreover, he spreads narratives about the alleged violations of the rights of the Romanian minority in Ukraine,'' the document reads.
