Presidentials 2024/AEP: Voting starts abroad; first polling station opens in New Zealand on Friday

AEP – the Permanent Election Authority, announced thatvoting for presidential elections begin abroad, the first polling station being opened on Friday, in New Zealand at Auckland, 1.00 a.m. Romania time.   According to an AEP press release, voting abroad for the first round of presidential elections will take place as follows: on Friday, November 22, between 12.00 a.m and 9.00 p.m, local time, on Saturday, November 23, and Sunday November 24, between 7.00 a.m and 9.00 p.m. Local time, with the possible extensions until 12.59 a.m on Sunday for citizens who are waiting to vote.   950 polling stations were organized abroad, 35 more than for June 9 elections when Romania's representatives for the European Parliament were elected, following suggestions of the Foreign Ministry as a result of data received from diplomatic missions and consular offices.   According to AEP, Romanian citizens with voting right living abroad or staying abroad can vote for presidential elections at any of the stations organized abroad, based on their ID issued by the Romanian state, valid on voting day: ID card, electronic ID card, provisional ID card, diplomatic passport, electronic diplomatic passport, simple passport , temporary simple passport, military id for students of military schools.   Data about electors' presence will be seen in real time, once the first polling stations open abroad on the Internet pageof the Permanent Election Authority – https://presenta.roaep.ro , for each polling station.   At the same time, results inscribed in reports filled by Election offices of polling stations can be consulted on the same page, following their conclusion and digital transmission, AEP informs.   The list of polling stations organized by the Foreign Ministry abroad for 2024 presidential elections can be consulted on the website of the Permanent Election Authority, on the link: https://www.roaep.ro/management-electoral/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Lista-sediilor-sectiilor-de-votare-din-strainatate-prezidentiale_parlamentare-2024.pdf.
