The main developments in the Schengen dossier and the next steps regarding this objective were analyzed during the meeting between Internal Affairs Minister Catalin Predoiu, the Ambassador of the French Republic in Bucharest, Nicolas Warnery and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Peer Gebauer."The talks highlighted Romania's contribution to securing the EU's external borders, combating illegal migration and cross-border crime. The Romanian official recalled the measures adopted both at national level and those agreed with the immediate neighbors and EU Member States, which have resulted in an almost zero decrease in migratory pressure at Romania's borders," reads a press release sent by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) on Tuesday.These measures were mainly aimed at strengthening cooperation and intensifying the exchange of information with the countries in the region and with European partners.At the same time, the discussions also focused on technical measures on the abolition of border controls from January 1, 2025.The officials recognized the important results achieved by Romania in terms of border security and migration management, due to well-structured and complementary measures, and reaffirmed their support for the completion of the objective of joining the Schengen Area at the JHA Council on 12 December."The discussions we had today with the French and German ambassadors confirm the very good position we are in ahead of the JHA Council on December 12. It is important to preserve this position and to capitalize on the diplomatic and on-the-ground progress in the field of border security, recorded in the last year, so that we can successfully conclude this dossier," said Catalin Predoiu.
