PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR, national minorities agree to form coalition, document signed at Palace of Parliament

National Liberal Party (PNL) interim chair Ilie Bolojan announced on Wednesday that the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), the Save Romania Union (USR) and the national minorities, as pro-European political parties, have agreed to form a coalition, aimed stability and , as part of a joint resolution."We, the Social Democratic Party, the National Liberal Party, the Save Romania Union, the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania and the representatives of national minorities, as pro-European political parties, have agreed today on the formation of a future coalition that will ensure the stability of the government and implement concrete measures for the modernization of Romania, for the benefit of all citizens. We reaffirm our resolve to maintain and strengthen Romania's commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic values and partnerships as pillars of national security and prosperity," Bolojan said at the Palace of Parliament.He added that the mentioned parties assume the responsibility to avoid Romania's international isolation, to support a solid pace of economic development and to protect the country's European course, the absorption of European funds, the reforms under the National Recovery and Resilience PLan, the accession to the Schengen Area and the OECD."We call on all Romanian citizens to go to the polls on Sunday, December 8, 2024, and vote in the next round of the elections. To cast an informed and rational vote, to choose a pro-European, democratic and secure Romania and reject isolationism, extremism and populism. Finally, I would like to inform you that we have agreed for the discussions on the government program and on the projects for the future government to start next week, as we have to focus on the presidential election campaign until Sunday," concluded Bolojan.The joint resolution was signed by Sorin Grindeanu (PSD), Ilie Bolojan (PNL), Dominic Fritz (USR), Cseke Attila (UDMR), Varujan Pambuccian (the group of national minorities).
