Defence minister Tilvar discusses preparations for NATO Summit 2025 with Dutch counterpart Brekelmans

Minister of Defence Angel Tilvar conducted an official visit to The Hague, in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, on Thursday, at the invitation of his counterpart, Ruben Brekelmans.According to the Romanian Ministry of Defence (MApN), during the bilateral meeting, the two ministers discussed deepening defence cooperation between the two countries, as well as coordinating efforts within NATO and the European Union to strengthen security.A key topic on the agenda was the preparation for the NATO Summit in The Hague, scheduled for 2025 with the ministers analysing ways to implement decisions aimed at bolstering NATO's eastern flank. They also discussed concrete measures to support Ukraine in the context of Russian aggression and emphasised the essential role of NATO-EU cooperation, reads press release sent on Thursday.The Defence ministers addressed the challenges posed by hybrid threats to European security, highlighting the importance of enhancing national resilience and international coordination to address them. In this context, they reaffirmed the importance of supporting the Republic of Moldova in its European integration efforts.Industrial cooperation in defence was another significant topic, with opportunities for joint project development being highlighted, particularly European Union initiatives such as the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP). These initiatives aim to meet the modernisation requirements of armed forces and support NATO's strategic initiatives, the Romanian Ministry of Defence stated.The Romanian defence minister thanked his counterpart for the Netherlands' significant contribution to NATO's deterrence and defence posture in the Black Sea region and reiterated Romania's strong commitment to supporting Ukraine through allied and European initiatives.  (Photo:https://armed.mapn.ro/)
