The unemployment rate accounted for 5.6% in the third quarter of 2024, up 0.6 percentage points from the second quarter of this year, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) informs on Friday.According to the statistics, the employment rate of the working-age population (15-64 years old) was 63.3% in the third quarter, going down compared to the previous quarter.INS data show that, in the third quarter of 2024, the employment rate of the population aged 20-64 was 69.3%.During the reference period, Romania's active population was 8.211 million people, of which 7.751 million people were employed and 460,400 people were unemployed.The employment rate of the working-age population (15-64 years) was, in the third quarter of 2024, 63.3%, down 1.1 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2024.According to the INS, the employment rate was higher for men (71.4% compared to 55.1% for women) and for people from urban areas (68.9% compared to 57.6% in rural areas). The employment rate of young people (15-24 years) was 19.6%.By gender, the gap between the two unemployment rates was 0.9 percentage points (6% for men versus 5.1% for women), and by residential area, 4.8 percentage points (8.2% in rural areas versus 3.4% in urban areas).By age group, the unemployment rate reached its highest level (26.9%) among young people (15-24 years old).
