US delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly concerned about the electoral process in Romania

January 21, 2025

The US delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly appreciated on Friday in  a press release ‘Romania’s role as firm ally of NATO and full-fledged member of the EU’ and in this context they expressed their concern in connetion to the ‘Russian efforts to undermine and influence the electoral process’ in our country."It is the prerogative of the Romanian people to choose their leaders, and the United States respects, without interference, the sovereign right of Romanians to choose," emphasised ten bipartisan congressmen.   "We are deeply concerned by the compelling evidence declassified by the Romanian government of Russian efforts to undermine and influence the electoral process. Aggressive tactics by foreign governments to undermine the integrity of Romania's democratic institutions, such as the manipulation of social media platforms like TikTok, must be thoroughly investigated and condemned in their entirety," the US lawmakers were quoted as saying in the statement.   "Ensuring the integrity of the electoral process is essential to uphold the principles of democracy and sovereignty. We stand with Romania in its concern to organise free and fair presidential elections," wrote Mike Turner, Gerald Connolly, Linda Sanchez, Brett Guthrie, Neal Dunn, Ann Wagner, Brian Fitzpatrick, Brendan F. Boyle, Rich McCormick, Rick Larsen, and Donald Norcross.
