Coalition decides dates of presidential elections - May 4 and May 18

February 6, 2025

The political parties in the governing coalition agreed on Wednesday evening that the first round of the presidential elections take place on May 4, and the second round on May 18.According to a PNL press release, Crin Antonescu remains the common candidate of the coalition for the position of president of Romania. The decision on the date of the elections takes into account the need for the first round of elections to take place at the same time as the partial elections in certain counties (elections for mayors in 13 communes, for Busteni City Hall, Zalau City Hall and Bihor County Council) and the need for the dates the elections should not overlap with the Easter and Palm Sunday holidays, said the quoted source. Thus, next week the Government will adopt the emergency ordinance and the decision necessary to observe the decisions of the coalition."The coalition has reconfirmed that Mr. Crin Antonescu remains its candidate for the presidential elections," the quoted release informs.
