Chairman of the Social Democratic Party's (PSD) National Council Mihai Tudose said on Thursday that a congress will be held in February to confirm the party's presidential candidate.Tudose was asked if Crin Antonescu should remain the ruling coalition's presidential contender or if the PSD should rather field a candidate of its own."We have decided to have a joint candidate. Also, it has been established very clearly that none of the chairmen of the two ruling parties can be the said joint candidate. (...) We will have congresses to validate this decision. The PSD will hold its congress in February," Tudose said at the PSD headquarters. He added that an extensive opinion poll will be conducted, not only regarding the presidential candidate, but other issues too, in order to get insight of the population's sentiment and of its real problems.Tudose refused to give more details about the survey and didn't say whether Crin Antonescu's candidacy will be dropped if the survey results show he has no traction.
