Reveal Marketing Research Study: Building energy efficiency means not only savings but also health

February 27, 2025

According to the Healthy Homes Barometer 2024 report, 1 in 4 Europeans live in homes where indoor air quality does not meet national standards, and more than 30 million European citizens face a lack of adequate natural light in their homes*. In this context, the latest study conducted by Reveal Marketing Research for the national program Romania Eficienta analyzed Romanians’ perceptions regarding the impact of increasing building energy efficiency on physical and mental health. Protecting health (16%) is the second most important aspect influenced by building energy efficiency, after reducing utility bills (19%). Hospitals (81%), schools (78%), and apartment buildings (74%) are the main “unhealthy” buildings that should benefit from measures to improve energy efficiency.   2 out of 10 Romanians believe that protecting health and reducing pollution are the main benefits of increasing building energy efficiency   According to the study data, 21% of Romanians believe that protecting health and reducing pollution are the main benefits of increasing building energy efficiency. Among the most important aspects influenced by improving building energy performance are the reduction of utility costs (19%), the improvement of individual health (16%), and the increase in personal comfort (15%). These factors contribute to an overall sense of well-being, both physical and mental, by reducing financial stress and providing healthier living conditions.   Additionally, 7 out of 10 Romanians agree that energy waste contributes to accelerating climate change, a viewpoint more prominent among women (76%) compared to men (64%). This reflects an increased awareness of the connection between energy efficiency, environmental protection, and collective health.   Hospitals (81%), schools (78%), and apartment buildings (74%) are the main “unhealthy” buildings that should benefit from measures to improve energy efficiency   Buildings play an important role in protecting the health of the community, and an energy-efficient environment significantly contributes to reducing health risks, improving quality of life, and increasing the personal comfort of those who use them. Therefore, 65% to 81% of Romanians believe that increasing the energy efficiency of all types of buildings is important. People over the age of 45 show significantly more interest, with an increase of 5-7% for all indicators. The buildings where improving energy performance is considered most important are hospitals (81%), schools (78%), and apartment buildings (74%). *** Reveal Market Resources, study no. 182: Reveal Market Resources is a data hub featuring free studies given to advertisers to support the marketing and communications market in Romania.
