Tax law predictability and the flexibilization of the Labor Code were among the topics tackled on Tuesday at a meeting between Senate President Ilie Bolojan and representatives of Amazon, a major investor in Romania's technology sector, which will soon celebrate 20 years of presence in the country, a release posted on the Senate's website informs."An important point of the discussions was the need for legislative predictability, especially as regards tax changes. Amazon representatives emphasized the importance of a clear calendar for implementing legislative changes, avoiding short-term decisions without consulting the business environment, and creating a stable climate favorable to investments. In this context, they reiterated the need for constant dialogue between the authorities and the private sector. Another topic was a higher flexibility of the Labor Code, considered a key factor for attracting foreign investments. Aspects such as performance management, regulation of the work schedule and stimulating competitiveness were highlighted as elements that can contribute to increasing Romania's attractiveness as an investment destination," the release states.The Senate President spoke about the measures needed to reduce the budget deficit below the 7% threshold through a process of reorganization of the public institutions, which includes streamlining the administration by eliminating redundant structures, axing unjustified positions and optimizing operational costs.Ilie Bolojan also emphasized the importance of the presidential election in May, which "will influence Romania's strategic direction in the coming years."Amazon Romania, with headquarters in Iasi and offices in Bucharest and Timisoara, carries out activities in key areas such as software development, research, AI, cybersecurity and cloud computing. Amazon is involved in educational and social projects, including the construction of a STEM Park in partnership with the 'Gheorghe Asachi' Technical University of Iasi, which stimulates children's interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
