Swiss ambassador: Brasov, one of best partners under cooperation program's first contribution facility

March 6, 2025

Brasov is one of the best partners as far as the implementation of projects funded from the first contribution under the Romanian-Swiss Cooperation Program is concerned, ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Romania Massimo Baggi on Friday told city mayor George Scripcaru during his visit to the renowned mountain resort."Before coming here, I looked over the many cooperation arrangements we had with you as part of the first contribution facility. It was impressive. For us, you are one of our best partners for the first contribution, and now we expect you to also be our best partner for the second contribution facility, given the good experience you have," Baggi declared, as cited in a statement by the Brasov City Hall.He announced that the budget package for Romania for the second contribution facility will be between 200 and 300 million euros for 11 programs and invited Brasov to participate in the calls on two financing axes it has experience with: energy efficiency and the development of dual education.According to the diplomat, the financing axes are opening up during this period, as the Swiss side will sign the financing contracts with each ministry in charge."I discussed with Mr. Ambassador new opportunities for projects and co-financing programs, on the same model that we should access in important areas for Brasov: education and energy efficiency. Equally important is that there are funding opportunities for what the highly useful addiction center means, which we should be concerned about, in order to protect children and young people from the scourge of drug use. These are three important areas. We need to prepare projects, which get co-financing from Swiss money plus a percentage from the government. We will participate in the next period in discussions in Bucharest and I am sure that we will manage to access these funds for Brasov," mayor George Scripcaru said. The projects of the second Swiss-Romanian cooperation program will be implemented between 2025 and 2028.Brasov received financing through the first stage of the said cooperation program for the modernization and energy efficiency of the Computer Science High School and the Gymnasium School No. 4, but also for the modernization of the heating energy transport network in the Tractorul neighborhood.  (Photo:https://www.facebook.com/)
