Eurostat: Romania, EU state with highest construction growths in December

Construction works grew slightly in EU in December 2024, compared to November 2024, while Poland, Czechia, Portugal and Romania were member states with the most powerful advance on this segment, from one month to the other, according to data released on Thursday by Eurostat.   According to these data, construction works stagnated in the euro zone and went up by 0.4% in EU in December 2024, compared to November. Among EU member states, the most important increases were recorded in Poland (5.7%), Czechia (4.6%), Portugal (3.6%) and Romania (3.4%). In Romania's case, the 3.4% increase in December 2024 came after a 5.4% rise in November.   In exchange, at annual level, in December 2024, compared to December 2023, construction works dropped by 0.1% in the euro zone and by 0.8% in EU. In Romania, cnstruction works recorded the most significant annual decline in EU, with a 12.9% contraction, highest than the 9.1% drop recorded in November.   According to data presented previously by INS, in Romania, in December 2024 against November 2024, the volume of construction works went up by 26.3%, an increase pointed out for capital repair works (+40.3%), maintenance and current repair works (+27.2%) and new construction works (+23.8%). There were increases for residential buildings (+51.6%), non-residential buildings (+32.6%) and engineer construction works (+17.5%).   The volume of construction works went up, as adjusted series according to the number of working days and season, by 3.3%, an increase recorded for capital repair works (+12.2%), new building works (+5.4%) and current maintenance and repair works( +5.3%). As for construction object, the volume of building works went up for residential buildings (+25.6%) and non-residential buildings (+12.5%). Engineer works dropped by 1.4%. In exchange, in December 2024, compared to December 2023, the volume of construction works as gross series, dropped by 11.6%. There were drops for structure elements, for current maintenance and repairs (-14.7%), new construction works (-11.2%) and capital repair works (-7.9%). For construction objects there were drops for non-residential buildings (-13.5%), engineer construction works (-11.1%) and residential buildings (-10%).   As an adjusted series, according to the number of working days and season, the volume of building works dropped by 14.3%. For structure elements, drops took place for new construction works (-16.1%), current maintenance and repair works (-14%) and capital repair works (-7.4%). In case of construction objects, the volume of works dropped for engineer works by 17,4%, non-residential buildings by 15% and residential buildings by 6.6%.
