Romania reaffirms its "full" commitment to Ukraine's freedom, sovereignty and independence, the country's interim President Ilie Bolojan said on Monday, in a message three years after the war in Ukraine started.Bolojan participated virtually in the summit "Defense and Security Strategy of Unity. Action Plan," organised in Ukraine. Address by the interim President of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, at the “Defense and Security Strategy of Unity. Action Plan” Summit, hosted by the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky in Kiev: President Zelensky, Ladies and gentlemen, Today marks three years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and soon, there will be eleven years since Ukraine began its brave fight to defend its freedom, independence, and territorial integrity. I take this opportunity to emphasize our respect for the brave Ukrainian people, who are fighting with heroism and enormous sacrifices against Russian aggression. My thoughts go out to those who have suffered from the war, to those who have lost family members, to the wounded, to those who are homeless, and to the refugees. Ukraine’s security is vital not only for Romania, but for the entire European continent. As discussions about peace efforts continue, we must remain steadfast in our support for Ukraine—now, and in the critical phases ahead, during both the peace process and the country’s reconstruction. The road ahead will be complex, but Romania has stood with Ukraine from the very beginning. It is in our interest, of all of us, to pursue this objective, also shared with the United States, of ending this war, which has lasted far too long and has taken far too many lives. It is essential that Ukraine and the European Union have a seat at the table in the peace negotiations. Romania stands ready to coordinate with all European, American, and allied partners to help forge a just and lasting peace as swiftly as possible. It is clear that we need to increase investments in defence to reinforce our security posture, to have a plan, and to coordinate for both deterrence and resilience. The solidarity of Ukraine’s friends remains crucial. Our collective support is more important than ever, as the future of peace is at stake. The success of these efforts will be measured by Ukraine’s stability and prosperity - ensured through solid security guarantees. (Source:https://www.presidency.ro/)
