Israeli ambassador says Gaza war not yet over, expresses gratitude for Romania's support

April 3, 2025

Israeli ambassador to Romania Lior Ben Dor said on Thursday during a visit to Buzau that Israel's authorities greatly appreciate the help of U.S. President Donald Trump and of his administration in the context of the Gaza Strip war, but also the solidarity and support offered by the Romanian state. The war against Hamas is not over yet, there are still captive hostages who must return from Gaza, the ambassador told a press conference organized at the Buzau City Hall in the presence of mayor Constantin Toma and president of the Buzau County Council Lucian Romascanu. We are still at war, Romania has permanently supported us and we greatly appreciate Romania's friendship, support and solidarity. We are at war with our enemies who want to destroy us, but we are strong and resilient and with the help of our friends, like those we have here in Romania, we will win. We still have hostages in captivity in Gaza, but many have already been freed and reunited with their families, some are of Romanian origin. We must fight for everyone to return home, including the dead. We were hit hard on October 7, a year and five months ago, but we will win and we will overcome the trauma. The Jewish people are accustomed to it, we know how to overcome hardships and obstacles. We thank the Romanian people, declared the ambassador of the State of Israel to Romania. The Israeli diplomat also expressed his country's appreciation for the help offered by U.S. President Donald Trump and the American administration. We are sure that Mr. Trump and the U.S. administration understand what the issue is and where it arises from, what we need to do against the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza and how important it is for Israel to be able to rely on their support. The alliance between Israel and the US is very important and we always appreciate the alliance and friendship with the U.S., Lior Ben Dor said.Asked if the Israeli Embassy in Romania received intelligence about a possible Russian interference with Romania's 2024 presidential election, he replied that he cannot directly refer to this, but that Israel want the best future for Romania and is sure that Romania knows how to stay the course towards this goal.Later, the Israeli ambassador visited the Jewish temple in Buzau, which is currently non-functional and degraded after the 1977 earthquake and subsequent tremors. He also met with the head of the Jewish Community of Buzau, Max Weiner.
