Bucharest-based businesses account for 29.2 pct of Romania's Jan - Oct 2024 foreign trade

International trade operations carried out in the first ten months of 2024 by Bucharest-based firms and companies amounted to 53.2 billion euros, the equivalent to 29.2% of Romania's foreign trade, according to data processed by the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) and based on the latest available statistical data (October 31, 2024) released by the National Institute of Statistics on the evolution of Romania's trade. In a breakdown by counties, the capital city tops the rankings of foreign trade activities, followed at a great distance by Ilfov County - with a share of 8.3%, Timis (7.7%), Arges (6.1%), Brasov (4%), Cluj (3.6%), Dolj (3.4%), Prahova (3.4%), Arad (3.3%) and Alba (3.2%).Foreign-bound shipments of goods in the reporting period by Bucharest firms and companies amounted to 16.2 billion euros (20.9% of Romania's exports), followed by exports from Timis (9.3%), Arges (8.1%), Ilfov (5.7%), Brasov (5%), Dolj (4.5%), Arad (4.3%), Alba (4%), Prahova (3.5%) and Sibiu (3.3%).According the centralized data, the top ten counties account for 68.6% of Romania's exports, while the remaining 32 totaled 31.4%.The main groups of goods exported by Bucharest businesses were machinery and equipment, electrical equipment and parts (26.7%), green plant products (14.9%), mineral products (14.5%), chemical industry products (7.1%), food products, beverages, alcoholic liquids and vinegar, tobacco and processed tobacco substitutes (6.3%), base metals and articles made of such materials (5.4%), vehicles and auxiliary transport equipment (4.7%), instruments and optical equipment (3.4%), textiles and textile articles (3.3%), arms and ammunition, parts and accessories (2.9%).These groups of goods account for 89.2% of the export of Bucharest companies.As far as imports are concerned, businesses headquartered in the capital city reported between January 1 and October 31, 2024 an amount of 36.9 billion euros (35.2% of total imports).Following Bucharest in this ranking are the counties of Ilfov (10.3%), Timis (6.5%), Arges (4.5%), Cluj (3.8%), Brasov (3.3%), Prahova (3.3%), Constanta (2.7%), Arad (2.6%) and Alba (2.6%).Overall, these counties accounted for 74.8% of Romania's imports, while the remaining 32 totaled 25.2%.The main ten groups of goods imported by Bucharest-registered companies in the first ten months of 2024 were: machines and appliances, electrical equipment and parts thereof (22.1%), chemical industry products (17%), mineral products (10.6%), vehicles, aircraft, vessels and transport equipment (8.3%), food products, beverages, alcoholic liquids and vinegar, tobacco (8%), base metals and articles made of such materials (6.1%), textiles and textile articles (5.3%), plastics and articles thereof, rubber and articles thereof (3.8%), plant products (3.4%), miscellaneous goods and products (3.4%).All these categories of goods made up 88% of the total import of Bucharest-based companies and firms, the CCIB specifies.
