MApN reports disinformation about so-called mobilization exercises

April 2, 2025

The Ministry of National Defence (MApN) signals, on the Inforadar platform, pieces of disinformation appearing in the public space that take up the narrative of alleged steps that the Romanian state authorities would have taken to mobilize the Romanian reservists or to prepare the population for defence in the context of the war in Ukraine."Both subjects are attempts to manipulate the population, without any legal basis and without any connection with a real situation," the Romanian ministry specifies..The first piece of disinformation signals "the call for emergency military training of young people with Romanian citizenship between 18 and 35 years (sic!) throughout Romania, starting April 3, 2025"."We would like to remind that serving compulsory military service, as a conscripted soldier for full-term or short-term conscription, was suspended in peacetime in Romania, starting January 1, 2007, as provided for by Law 395/2005 on the suspension of compulsory military service in peacetime and the transition to voluntary military service," MApN points out.MApN also reminds that it has communicated on several occasions that it has not considered, at any time, the return to compulsory military service, but is considering exclusively solutions for recruiting reservists on a voluntary basis. The second piece of disinformation announces the so-called "mobilization exercises in preparation", based on a press article which refers to a mobilization exercise prepared by the National Army of the Republic of Moldova, and not by the Romanian authorities, as the authors of the material published by the unimedia.info platform from Chisinau show.In this regard, MApN says that, according to its functional duties, it also carries out exercises of this kind in our country, usually two or three times a year, activities that are announced in advance in the public space. The last such training activity took place from October 14 to October 18, 2024, in Buzau and Ialomita counties (Exercise MOBEX BZ-IL-24). Exercises of this kind are planned for 2025, towards the end of the first half of year, which will be communicated publicly."Such disinformation is expected to continue to be reported on various digital communication platforms," the ministry added.
