Romgaz Launches Gas Supply Company in Moldova

April 29, 2025

Romania’s national gas company, Romgaz, is to open a gas sales company in the Republic of Moldova, as it prepares to enter the supply market to household customers in Romania this year.   “Approval of the establishment and registration with the State Register of Legal Entities of the Republic of Moldova of the limited liability company with the name “Romgaz Furnizare M S.R.L.”, headquartered in Chisinau, Mihai Eminescu Street no. 70, Republic of Moldova, having as its main activity the sale of gaseous fuels through pipelines”, says a provision appears in the convening notice of the Romgaz General Shareholders’ Meeting to be held on April 29.    At that time, the shareholders will also vote on the approval of the statute of the company “Romgaz Furnizare M S.R.L.”    In January, Romgaz, the national gas producer, launched the tender for the IT platform necessary for contracting and invoicing gas and electricity for household customers in Romania, which must support an “unlimited” number of consumption sites. The company received three offers, from three associations of companies, in the public contracting procedure. The company still estimates that the award will be made during May of this year.    After signing the contract, the winner will have to deliver the necessary hardware infrastructure within 45 days at most and put the IT platform into operation after another 45 – a total of 90 days. “In the 3rd quarter of 2025, we will be able to come up with the first offers for the supply of natural gas, we want to enter the supply market where it is natural that Romgaz must exist (beyond the limited supply it makes as a last resort – ed.). Based on our analysis, we believe that we can make the supply internally. The synergies within the company make the supply price competitive, as it is at Hidroelectrica”, Razvan Popescu, the general director of Romgaz, used to say a month ago.   Romgaz, Romania’s largest state-controlled gas producer, reported a consolidated net profit of 3.2 billion lei in 2024, up almost 15% in 2024, according to data published by the company. However, turnover decreased by 11.9% or one billion lei, to 7.9 billion lei, mainly due to lower prices. Quantitatively, gas volumes delivered increased by about 1% compared to the previous year.
