200-plus Romanian companies participating in Ukraine reconstruction events organized by EU partners

May 6, 2025

More than 200 Romanian companies have already registered and participate in the various events organized by EU partners in the process of Ukraine's reconstruction, presidential advisor Luminita Odobescu on Monday told the conference 'Rebuilding Ukraine in the New Transatlantic Paradigm: Challenges for the European Business Environment in the Trump 2.0 Era' organized by the Romania - Ukraine Bilateral Chamber of Commerce."It's a process we are already contributing to because there is an ongoing dialogue between the authorities and the business environment, as well as between our other European partners. More than 200 Romanian companies have already registered and participate in the various events organized by partners from the European Union," Odobescu said, emphasizing that the institutional dialogue for the reconstruction process takes place on several levels - the governmental one, that sees the government, the Presidential Administration and all relevant ministries coordinated by a working group; the business level - where events are being organized to present the existing opportunities for Romanian companies; and the civil society.According to Odobescu, Romania has a role as a regional hub through the massive investments made in infrastructure, in road infrastructure, in the development of border checkpoints, all of which will be put to use when the actual rebuilding process begins. In a trilateral approach, Romania can support both the integration of Ukraine and of the Republic of Moldova, but playing at regional level, because Romania is an EU member state, it's a gateway positioned as a connection point with the Caucasus and with Asia, which all provide a lot of opportunities for Romanian companies, Odobescu said.In her turn, Secretary of State with the Ministry of European Investments and Projects (MIPE) Carmen Moraru said that the European Union has proven its firm commitment to the recovery of Ukraine through the "Ukraine Facility", an EUR 50 billion financial instrument for the period 2024-2027. "These funds represent a vital component of the global revitalization effort estimated at over EUR 400 billion, and through its expertise in recovery and the capacity to act as a trusted partner in the region, Romania supports this effort," specified Moraru. The MIPE official considers that public-private partnerships are essential for maximizing the impact of these funds and stimulate sustainable development. "We will continue to contribute through EU financed cross-border projects which will connect Ukraine to Europe through modernized infrastructure and clean energy. In this context, we aim to transform Romania into a strategic corridor for the reconstruction of Ukraine, using European funds for modernization, railway infrastructure, developing the Danube ports, the Port of Constanta, as well as by fostering energy interconnections that are vital for regional security," the Secretary of State also said.
